Day 13, 9 December, 2016
14 years old. Before the war she was living in Luhansk with her mother. According to her, they had a simple life, but each year they went on holidays with the money they could save. With organised trips she could visit big cities such as Paris, Prague, Vienna and Budapest. She started playing the piano at a very young age thanks the free music schools that remained from the Soviet period. She plays the piano wonderfully well ; later she’d like to become a piano teacher.
One day, we asked all the Ukrainian children: “how do you imagine your life in ten years?”. Masha answered without hesitation: “ I have to be happy… I already witnessed so much misfortune in my life. In the classrooms we were used to hearing explosions from a distance… but when they got very close we decided to leave the city and seek refuge in Kiev. I miss my friends from Lougansk a lot and I worry about them because I don’t know if they are safe or not.”
