Abdelkarim

Day 18, 14 December, 2016

32 years old, Soudanese young man from Darfour. He first went to Tchad, then to Libya when he decided to flee the progovernement militia violences of his homeland. In Libya he worked for months without ever receiving the salary he was suppose to. He could not go back to his country anymore without the fear of being arrested and tortured, so he decided to go on and to cross the Mediterranean sea. He stayed only a few weeks in Calais and he quickly understood that the best he could do was to leave the "Jungle" as soon as possible.

Abdelkarim received Asylum relatively fast and since then he has been working in different places. Currently, he is working in a local masonry project that renovates old walls falling apart. He is of a very big help in the house where we have been welcoming, for already 6 weeks, young minors from Calais who hope to go to England. He volunteered to go live there and every night, after work, he spends time with the young boys and helps them with his presence and kindness to accept their situation and to wait for the answers from the British authorities.
