Ibrahim

Day 4, 30 November, 2016

27 years old. He fled Darfur and before arriving in Taizé on the 5th of November 2015 he was in Calais. After a few months, Ibrahim told us that the first French word he learned was “dégage!” (Get out of here!) When arriving in France it was the word people told him most often, he thought it meant “hello”. He tried to use it in a railway station… he soon discovered that this word meant something completely different.

Since then Ibrahim has learned to speak French. During the long months of waiting for his asylum request he transformed a piece of land into a wonderful vegetable garden. Friends from the region come to admire his little piece of paradise. Now, Ibrahim is working in an agricultural cooperative in the region.
