Nemet

Day 5, 1 December, 2016

24 years old, from Afghanistan. After a few days, he was the only Afghan left with 10 Sudanese refugees in the house we call Neva. We all knew that in Calais there were tensions between Sudanese and Afghans. Thanks to Nemet and to our sudanese friends we learned during that year that people can overcome prejudices and divisions. The peaceful coexistence which we thought was going to be impossible at first came naturally. And the house where they are living got a new name : Soudanistan.

He also helped the group make tremendous progress in French. If he were not there, the Sudanese would have continued speaking Arabic together. But with Nemet in the house they all had to adapt and speak a common language which turned out to be French. Nemet is now working as an apprentice mason and he is also renting a small flat in the neighboring village.
